Amy E. Ruiz M.S., OTR/L is Dixie’s eldest daughter. She is a licensed and registered occupational therapist currently practicing in home health and outpatient care settings in the Maryland suburbs of Washington, D.C. where she resides with her husband and three children. She is a balance and vestibular rehab specialist, has extensive experience in low vision and cognitive disorders, and holds a specialty certification in lifestyle re-design.
Prior to pursuing her calling in healthcare, Amy held roles on Capitol Hill, at a boutique public affairs firm, a non-profit research institute for women’s issues in developing countries, and on the global public affairs and strategic initiatives teams at one of the world’s largest fast moving consumer goods companies. These experiences bring her a unique perspective on the public, private and social sectors. She founded Fixin’ Dixie’s Kitchen to share her passion for food as medicine, making sound nutrition accessible and sustainable in order to promote quality of life, throughout the process of growing older.
